Pilot Rescued Quickly, Injured Weapons Officer Recovered After High-Risk Operation
The head of the Central Intelligence Agency, John Ratcliffe, has said Iran was left “embarrassed” and “humiliated” after the United States successfully carried out a daring rescue mission inside Iranian territory.
The operation followed the downing of a F-15E Strike Eagle, which forced two American crew members to eject over hostile terrain.
Pilot Rescued First, Second Crew Member Seriously Injured
According to officials, the pilot was rescued on the same day as the crash. However, the second crew member—a weapons systems officer—was not immediately reachable.
Reports indicate that he was seriously injured and stranded in difficult mountainous terrain, making the rescue far more complicated.
He reportedly survived for nearly two days while avoiding Iranian forces before being located by U.S. intelligence and special operations teams.
CIA Played Key Role in Mission
Ratcliffe revealed that the CIA used advanced intelligence tools and a deception campaign to confuse Iranian forces during the rescue effort. The goal was to locate the missing airman before Iranian troops could capture him.
He described the mission as extremely difficult—comparing it to “finding a single grain of sand in the desert.”
The operation involved multiple aircraft, special forces, and real-time intelligence coordination.
Iran ‘Humiliated’ by Mission Success
Speaking after the mission, Ratcliffe said U.S. intelligence showed that Iranian authorities were left “embarrassed and ultimately humiliated” by the successful rescue.
The statement highlights the strategic and symbolic importance of the mission, especially as it took place deep inside Iranian territory.
One of the Most Complex Rescue Missions
Officials have described the operation as one of the most complex combat search-and-rescue missions in recent history. It required coordination between intelligence agencies and military units under intense pressure.
Despite the risks, both crew members were eventually recovered, marking the mission as a success for U.S. forces.
Rising Tensions in the Region
The incident comes amid growing tensions between the United States and Iran, with both sides increasing military activity.
Experts warn that such high-risk operations, while successful, could further escalate the situation in the region.
